This is my little family!
My name is Nicole. I’m
a mommy, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a coworker, and a student. I wear many hats in this crazy thing called
life and I’m about to add two more hats to my wardrobe. I’ve taken up an interest in photography,
which I hope to share a little bit of with you in my blog, as well as blogging
itself! I enjoy writing, which probably
makes me a dork but it’s cool. So this
is a way that I can write and share my thoughts and feelings without having to
worry about whether it is actually good or not!
I was born and raised right where I live now. The house I grew up in is less than a half
mile from where I live now. I have one
older sister. We are a whopping 10 years
apart! Crazy, right? My parents keep trying to tell me that their
dog is my brother, but I’m not buying it.
My husband, who we’ll talk more about in a few minutes, was also born
and raised right here. Now when I say
right here, I’m speaking literally. We live
right in front of his parents. I know
you’re thinking “why in the world would you want to be neighbors with your in-laws?” Honestly, I have to say that I wasn’t a big
fan of the idea either when we first moved in, but they don’t bother us at
all. It’s actually kind of nice having
them so close by sometimes. I’m blessed
in the sense that I don’t have a set of horrible in-laws like you hear people
complain about all the time. Thank
goodness!
I guess it goes without saying that they raised a pretty
great son, you know, since I married him and all. Ha! So
let’s talk about him for a moment. For
the purposes of not sharing his “government name” (because he is a conspiracy
theorist which is a different topic all in itself) and so that I don’t have to
keep referring to him as “my husband,” we will call him Mr H. Mr H drives me crazy most days and I just
want to throw something at him, but the truth is I wouldn’t trade him for
anything. He is a good man. He’s a wonderful father and our son simply
adores him. In fact, whenever he is
around, nobody else exists. He is a
daddy’s boy through and through. Which only
makes me love Mr H even more. And I
suppose he’s a good husband too ;). Ok,
he’s a great husband! When I was
pregnant he was wonderful. I even got
him to rub lotion on my dry swollen ankles and feet a few times. Now that’s love! I had to have a c-section with my son, so recovery
was rough but Mr H was a trooper. Then, unbeknownst
to me at the time, my gallbladder decided to commit suicide and I thought I was
dying. So I called Mr H freaking out and
crying and I told him he had to come home because I needed to go to the
hospital. He was a good 40 minutes from
home. When I tell you that he hung up on
me and showed up 20 minutes later, I’m not kidding. That man would do anything for me. ANYTHING.
And I know that without him having to tell me.
We have been together since 2005 and married since
2008. It’s kind of by chance that we
even met. We grew up right down the
street from each other and never knew it.
We went to the same high school, but I never knew him. He, of course, says he knew who I was but
then again he likes to one up me so I’m not so sure I believe him lol. I was going through a phase in my life where I
knew I needed to do something with my life but I wasn’t sure what that was
going to be. I wanted to get a good job
that paid decent money but I didn’t want to go to school forever to do it. So I had gotten a catalog for continuing
education courses at my local community college and in the list of courses
offered was Emergency Medical Technician.
It was a 6 month course. My kind
of class! So I signed up. It was this decision that would eventually
change my life.
The first night of class I found a seat next to a woman who
looked like my kind of people. Her name
was Trinity. We started talking and
became friends. After a few weeks of
class she started telling me that she had a nephew that she wanted me to
meet. I was not interested in meeting
anybody because I had just gotten out of a relationship and was kind of
enjoying being single for a little while.
She, of course, ignored me and gave my phone number to him anyway. She didn’t tell me that she gave him my phone
number either. So when I got a phone call,
I was very surprised. The first phone
call was a little awkward, but we made it through it. It was probably awkward because I didn’t know
he was going to be calling lol. We
talked on the phone for about two weeks before we decided to meet
somewhere. I had no idea what this guy
looked like, so I was very nervous. I asked
my friend Kadie to come along with me just in case it was a fail and I needed
to be rescued. We decided to meet at a
little bar downtown. When Kadie and I
pulled up I saw him standing on the corner outside of the bar waiting on
me. I still remember what he was wearing;
red Ralph Lauren polo, carpenter jeans, blue ball cap, brown boots. I couldn’t see his face from the distance,
but I approved of the clothes. At least
he didn’t dress like someone from peopleofwalmart.com. As we got closer and his face came into
focus, it was over. I was immediately
lovestruck. I don’t remember this, but
Kadie says I turned around as we were walking into the bar and said, “I want
him. I must have him.” Haha.
Lucky for me it worked out in my favor :). That night turned out to be the beginning of
the rest of my life. It was also the
night that Kadie and I discovered that not all guys can play pool haha. Love Mr H, but a pool player he is not.
We dated for a little over a year before we bought our home
together in January of 2007. In December
of 2007 we were engaged. We got married
on May 24, 2008. I wanted a short
engagement and a small, simple wedding.
We got married under the oak trees behind the church that Mr H’s daddy
preaches at. It was a beautiful
day! In July of 2009 I found out I was
pregnant and we met our little bundle of joy in April of 2010! Two years later, here I am!
I’m currently in school completing my pre-nursing
requirements and hope to start the nursing program in the fall of 2014. Fingers crossed! I’m also taking some photography classes on
the side because it has also become a passion of mine that I would like to
pursue. Who knows where that will go,
but at this point it doesn’t matter to me.
I just love it and want to learn more about it.
I’m also a beast in the kitchen. My husband will tell you that there isn’t
really anything that I have cooked that he hasn’t liked. I love to bake as well. Pies and cakes mainly. For whatever stupid reason me and cookies don’t
like each other. I have never been able
to make a cookie from scratch that turned out the way it was supposed to. Maybe one day.
So that’s me in a nutshell!
Hi, Nicole! I read on your post on Mackey Madness that you are from a small town in NC. I am also from NC (all over). It sounds like we have a lot in common. I am also a busy working student, wife, and mother of boys. I'll be following you and hope you'll do the same. Have a great day! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry! Nice to meet you :) I saw that you are in Charlotte! I'm about 2 hours east of you in a small dot on the map near Chapel Hill/Durham. It's nice to meet another busy mom! Balancing school, work, family and hobbies is HARD! I'm gonna be following your blog as well! We'll have to keep in touch!!
